Our State Fair: The North Dakota Experience
The North Dakota State Fair is an annual tradition that promises nine days of “old-fashioned” family fun. Crowds gather from across the region for the auto races, rodeos, concerts, and carnival rides. In North Dakota, the focus of the fair has always been the agricultural barns. The ag industry, vital to the wellbeing of the state, champions this special attraction with competitions that attract experienced farmers and ranchers as well as youngsters eager to show their prize-winning stock. North Dakota – US: A Look at Minot Flooding From the Air
From: AssociatedPress youtu.be Officials in North Dakota’s fourth-largest city said Thursday they had done all they could to protect critical infrastructure from the rising Souris River as it headed toward a record flood. (June 23) ………………………………………………………………… US News Minot flood to be far worse than expected Published: June 24, 2011 at 4:00 AM MINOT, ND, June 24 (UPI) — Minot, ND, flooding will likely be far worse than predicted, as the Souris River tops a 130-year-old record by more than 8 feet, authorities said. “This’ll be historic,” National Weather Service meteorologist Harlyn Wetzel in Bismarck, ND, told The Wall Street Journal. “This is a Noah flood — as in big, large, historic,” US Army Corps of Engineers district engineering Chief Michael Bart told The New York Times. Nobody could have anticipated a flood of this magnitude, with water levels almost six times what the area’s 40-year-old flood-protection systems were designed to take, Bart said. The river, swollen by recent downpours, spilled out of its regular channel and cut down a valley to Lake Darling, the last flood-control point north of Minot, Wetzel said. The corps was releasing about 22000 cubic feet of water a second from the lake toward Minot early Friday. Flows could rise to 28000 to 29000 cubic feet by Saturday, Wetzel said. Waters were already spreading across the downtown area and threatening to split the city in two, the Times said. Read more: www …
